European and International Energy Policy

Safeguarding our standard of living presupposes smoothly functioning and reliable energy supply. Long-term supply of the population with energy and the associated costs and environmental effects largely dominate Austria's economic efficiency.

We should keep energy consumption at low levels, make careful use of our own energy resources while expanding them, safeguard necessary import through diversity and provide adequate infrastructure for transport and storage.

Austria's international energy policy is based on three closely interlinked levels: an EU, a bilateral and a multilateral level.

Thanks to its geographic location, Austria functions as a hub in the area of pipeline-bound sources of energy. This entails not only responsibility for Europe's supply with energy but also chances for Austria as a business location.
